Now it’s also one of only eight Ohio “pivot counties,” where a majority of voters twice picked Barack Obama before turning around and twice picking Donald Trump.

Portage County Democrats regroup after red wave

Chris Clevenger-Morris, president of the Portage County Young Democrats, usually organizes campaign volunteers at a local park before an election.

But in October, parks were not taking reservations because of the pandemic, so he set up in the driveway of the house he and his husband recently bought in Kent.

“I put up a 6-foot Young Dems banner on a table and took it down three hours later” after everyone had picked up their campaign packets, he said. “A week later, I see Donald Trump flipping me off across the street.”
